The Millennium Dome DSSB at Millennium Dome

REPORT AND PICTURES

On Thursday 27th July 2000, the Doncaster Schools Symphonic Band visited the Millennium Dome at Greenwich, representing the William Appleby Music Centre as part of a special "Our Town" focus on Doncaster.

An early start (5.00 am) saw the band arrive in good time for a sound check in the very big central area. The organisation was superb, with a personal stage manager to look after the band, and buggies laid on for transporting instruments throughout the complex. The band played twice during the day; in the central area at 11.25am (very precise timings!), and just outside the main entrance at 2.00pm.

The new Mayor of Doncaster heard the band play during the second performance and said she enjoyed it.

It was lovely to see just how many parents and family of band members had made a special effort to journey down to the Dome to support the band. Many commented on how well the band had played, and there was interest shown from members of the general public who had taken the time to sit and enjoy the music.

It was a very tiring, but most enjoyable day.
