Prog DONCASTER MINSTER 2004

The Beechfield Youth Orchestra, conducted by John Pearson were joined by the 9.30 strings, conducted by Joanne Gange, to give a stunning concert of Russian Music on June 20th 2004. In this very week, the St. Georges' Church, the Parish church of Doncaster had become Doncaster Minster, and the Music Service was proud to be able to give one of the first concerts in this re-christened, beautiful building.

The occasion was made all the more special by the Flower Festival which was also running during this week, and many of the flower displays had been designed around a musical theme, and had ingeniously worked in actual musical instruments as well as sheet music.

The 9.30 orchestra were not in the least overwhelmed by the grandeur of the surroundings, and played with good spirit and enthusiasm. The Beechfield Orchestra played a very testing programme with a confidence and display of stamina that would not have disgraced a professional orchestra.

The Music Service is grateful to Canon Smith, Andrew Wilson and all at Doncaster Minster for looking after us so well and we are looking forward to promoting further similar events in the future.
